How To Become a Qualified Referee

Wonder what it’s like to manage a football game?

Love football but can’t play as much as you did?

Want a hobby where you can earn money?

Or  maybe you just simply want to understand why certain refereeing decisions are made?

Well, you're not the only one, more and more people of all ages, genders, races and abilities are getting into refereeing.

If you would like to become a qualified referee, you need to take part in a Basic Referees Course with your local County Football Association. If you would like to speak to someone in your area then please go to web links which will direct you through to the appropriate County Football Association where a member of staff will be happy to help.

 LAWS OF THE GAME

The Laws of the Game for 11v11 are set by the international Football Associations Board, which features representatives from The Football Associations of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and FIFA. These Laws are followed in every country of the world that is affiliated to FIFA. Amendments are made to the Laws for each season.  Every referee must apply the Laws of the Game in every game of 11v11 football that is played.

Mini soccer is a form of football that allows young players to play football in a supportive, fun and learning environment. The FA have developed Laws of Mini Soccer to facilitate a framework to enable this format of football to be played.

FIFA compose the Laws of the Game for Futsal and are updated at least every other season. The FA writes its own Laws of the Game for Small Sided Football, which are applicable in England. Want to learn more about the different formats in football then see our small sided pages.
